How to Check What Version of Microsoft .NET Framework is Installed Without Any Software

When you install a software or a utility a dialogue box pops up showing an error.
The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000135). Click OK to terminate the application.
What is this error?
             Well, this error is because your computer system does not have .NET Framework installed.

So, what is .NET Framework? The .NET Framework is a an application development platform that makes it quicker and also easier for software developers to create a range of Windows applications and services. Programming languages can be made to interact with other programming languages without the need to worry about finer details like memory management etc. A .NET application also runs inside its own virtual machine which is a big help from a security standpoint.



You need .NET Framework to be installed on your system in order to run programs that needs this as a pre-requisite. It is just like you need to install flash player to run online videos.

Lastest windows operating systems have it preinstalled but the old ones doesn't have it thats why you have to install it. There are many versions available which different programs needs different versions. Below are the list of versions that are available :

  1. .NET Framework 1.0
  2. .NET Framework 1.1
  3. .NET Framework 2.0
  4. .NET Framework 3.0
  5. .NET Framework 3.5
  6. .NET Framework 4.0
  7. .NET Framework 4.5

 Therefore, multiple versions are already present in the system to run different applications. Sometimes users doesn't know themselves that which versions are installed on their system.

Below are the steps to know which versions are installed.

  1. Open "regedit.exe" by simply typing it in the start menu or in the RUN(Press window+r) window.
  2. Navigate to the following path "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP\" without quotes

The installed versions are listed under the NDP subkey. The version number is stored in the Version entry.
